At a time when wars, geopolitical tensions and global divisions are testing the international order, the five Central Asian nations have delivered a rare message of unity from the UN headquarters in New York, DKNews.kz reports.

The Permanent Representatives of the region's countries joined a special UN80 commemorative event marking the upcoming anniversary of the signing of the United Nations Charter — the founding document of the modern international system.

A Joint Commitment

Ahead of the anniversary, President of the UN General Assembly Annalena Baerbock invited Member States to sign a symbolic declaration reaffirming the values and principles contained in the Charter's Preamble.

Central Asia responded as one.

Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan became the first regional group to collectively join the initiative, highlighting their shared support for multilateralism, international law and constructive international cooperation.

Why It Matters

The move comes at a time when international institutions face increasing pressure from armed conflicts, economic uncertainty and growing geopolitical rivalries.

Against this backdrop, the decision by all five Central Asian countries to participate together sends a clear signal: regional cooperation remains a priority, and dialogue remains the preferred path forward.

The joint participation also reflects Central Asia's growing confidence on the world stage.

Over the past several years, the region has intensified cooperation on trade, transport connectivity, water security, energy, sustainable development and regional stability.

A Region Finding Its Voice

While Central Asian countries have traditionally pursued their own foreign policy priorities, they have increasingly coordinated positions on key regional and international issues.

Their collective support for the UN80 initiative demonstrates how the region is becoming a more visible and coordinated player in global affairs.

For diplomats at the United Nations, the symbolism was hard to miss.

Rather than acting individually, the five nations chose to stand together in support of the principles that have shaped international relations for nearly eight decades.

Looking Ahead to UN Charter Day

UN Charter Day is observed every year on June 26, marking the signing of the Charter in San Francisco on June 26, 1945.

This year's anniversary carries special significance as the United Nations prepares to celebrate its 80th year.

For Central Asia, the message ahead of that milestone is clear: cooperation, dialogue and respect for international law remain at the heart of the region's vision for the future.
