Kazakhstan and Huawei have signed new agreements in Shanghai aimed at expanding technological cooperation. The next priorities include modern digital infrastructure, artificial intelligence, the digital transformation of key industries and the training of local specialists, DKNews.kz reports.

The long-standing partnership between Kazakhstan and Huawei is entering a new phase. The new areas of cooperation were outlined during a roundtable meeting between President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and executives of leading Chinese high-tech companies.

The Head of State highlighted the contribution of Chinese businesses to the modernization of Kazakhstan’s economy, naming Huawei among the major companies successfully operating in the country.

According to the President, joint projects help introduce advanced technologies, create new jobs and strengthen industrial cooperation.

What will the new agreements bring to Kazakhstan?

During the roundtable, Huawei signed several agreements with its Kazakhstani partners covering technological cooperation and digital transformation.

Behind the technical language are practical objectives that can directly affect everyday life: more reliable internet networks, faster data processing, wider access to digital services and more efficient business operations.

Modern network and computing infrastructure will enable industries such as manufacturing, energy and transport to adopt automation and artificial intelligence solutions more actively. Ensuring that digital technologies are available not only in major cities but also across the regions remains equally important for Kazakhstan’s balanced development.

“Developing modern digital infrastructure is one of the key prerequisites for sustainable economic growth and a better quality of life. Our priorities include ensuring equal access to technology, improving infrastructure resilience and accelerating the digital transformation of key sectors of the economy. Implementing such initiatives will lay a solid foundation for Kazakhstan’s long-term development,” said Zhaslan Madiyev, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

More than 200,000 students trained

Huawei has contributed to the development of Kazakhstan’s digital infrastructure for nearly 30 years. While the early stages of cooperation focused primarily on telecommunications networks, the partnership now covers a much broader range of areas.

The parties intend to prioritize the development of computing capacity, the introduction of digital solutions and artificial intelligence in key industries, and the training of Kazakhstani specialists.

“Huawei has contributed to the development of Kazakhstan’s digital infrastructure for nearly 30 years. The next stage of our cooperation will focus on strengthening network and computing infrastructure, introducing digital solutions in key industries and training local specialists. More than 200,000 Kazakhstani students have already received training through the AI Sana project. We intend to continue investing in the development of digital skills in the country,” said Wang Jianfeng, Member of Huawei Technologies’ Supervisory Board and President of the Public Affairs and Corporate Communications Department.

The next stage of the partnership

The agreements signed in Shanghai show that cooperation between Kazakhstan and Huawei is moving beyond individual projects towards a long-term technological partnership.

The next task is to turn these agreements into practical initiatives. These are expected to include the modernization of telecommunications networks, stronger computing infrastructure, the introduction of digital solutions at enterprises and the training of a new generation of IT professionals.

For Kazakhstan, this is about more than adopting new technologies. The quality of digital infrastructure is becoming a decisive factor in the country’s economic competitiveness, business growth and access to modern services.
