Murdoch University leaders are heading to Kazakhstan
The composition of the delegation suggests that the talks go beyond educational programs alone.
Alongside Simon McKirdy, the meeting was attended by Professor Peter Davies, Pro Vice Chancellor and Director of the Food Futures Institute, and Mohamed Abdulkhaleq Bamatraf, Executive Director of Murdoch University Dubai.
The Food Futures Institute conducts research in areas including food systems, agriculture, and the sustainable use of land and water resources.
Joint education and research projects discussed
The sides reviewed prospects for cooperation in higher education and science.
Particular attention was given to joint educational and research projects that could be implemented in Kazakhstan.
Specific programs, launch dates and the format of cooperation have not yet been disclosed.
The upcoming visit is expected to continue these discussions in Kazakhstan.

Murdoch University is also looking at Semey
The latest talks continue earlier discussions about the Australian university’s potential presence in Kazakhstan.
The sides have previously considered the possibility of opening a Murdoch University branch at Shakarim University in Semey. No final decision on launching the campus has yet been announced.
Against this backdrop, the upcoming visit by the university’s leadership carries additional significance: alongside a potential presence in Semey, the parties are also considering broader formats of educational and research cooperation.
A few days ago, we wrote about why Murdoch University is considering Semey and what is known about a potential branch of the Australian university.
