On October 29, 2020, in Nur-Sultan, at the site of the Institute of Applied Ethnopolitical Research (IPEI), an expert meeting was held on the topic "Xenophobia in Kazakhstani society: causes, impact on stability and ways to overcome".
The meeting was held in an online format, it was attended by members of the Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan and the Scientific and Expert Council, Vice-Minister of Information and Social Development M. Azilkhanov, representatives of the KISS, the IPEI expert group, the Strategy Center for Strategic Research and the Research Institute opinion".
During the discussion, various opinions were voiced on the topic under discussion.
In particular, in his speech, Vice Minister of Information and Social Development M. Azilkhanov noted that the issue of xenophobia requires careful research, starting from determining its characteristics to measuring the population of the country.
In turn, the president of the public fund "Strategy" G. Ileuova drew attention to the fact that the younger generation is indifferent to ethnic characteristics, gender, culture, etc. and does not have a clearly expressed position on this issue. In her opinion, one of the reasons for the emergence and strengthening of xenophobic attitudes is the deterioration of the situation in the economy.
In addition, Kalamkas Yessimova, an analyst at the Public Opinion Research Institute, expressed her point of view on the globally growing sinophobia. In her opinion, synophobia is a consequence of the confrontation between the two powers, the United States and China. Kazakhstan, on the other hand, is in the system of global relations, and thus it influences public opinion.
During the discussion, the experts expressed the position that there is a need to strengthen educational and educational measures, the role of which in the prevention of xenophobia is very important.
