On June 28, 2023, under the auspices of the Embassy of Kazakhstan in Greece and the Kazakh-Hellenic Business Council, the Mayor of the Greek city of Ancient Olympia, Georgios Georgiopoulos, visited Taraz to establish cooperation in the fields of culture, education, and sports, DKNews.kz reports.
Mayor Georgiopoulos held a meeting with the Akim of the Zhambyl region, Nurzhan Nurzhigitov, during which the parties discussed trade and economic interaction, as well as cultural and humanitarian relations.

The meeting was also attended by the Co-Chairmen of the Kazakh-Hellenic Business Council, well-known Kazakh economist Zhaksybek Kulekeev, and Greek businessman Thomas Lamnidis. During the talks, Greek companies expressed interest in implementing projects in the processing of agricultural products, solar power generation and waste recycling.

Mayor Georgiopoulos and Akim of Taraz, Bakytzhan Orynbekov, reached an agreement on the implementation of joint projects in the sphere of history and culture between Ancient Olympia and Taraz, where many historical and archaeological objects are located.
Mayor Georgiopoulos also invited representatives from Kazakhstan to visit the birthplace of the Olympic Games, where the International Olympic Academy is currently located.
Kazakh-Hellenic Business Council, established in 2022, is a bilateral platform that aims to promote trade and investment relations between Kazakhstan and Greece.
