Kazakhstan and Hong Kong are preparing to deepen their partnership, with a strong focus on investment, business cooperation, and education. A meeting between the Consul General of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the Hong Kong SAR, Bauyrzhan Dosmanbetov, and Nicholas Ho, Commissioner for the Belt and Road Office of the Hong Kong SAR Government, outlined ambitious plans for the coming years, DKNews.kz reports.
The talks centered on priority areas of cooperation for 2026, particularly the implementation of joint investment projects.
Investment potential and new opportunities
During the meeting, the Consul General presented Kazakhstan’s economic outlook, highlighting the country’s investment potential and steady socioeconomic development. Special attention was given to projects in the tourism and infrastructure sectors, which are seen as key drivers of long-term growth and international cooperation.
Kazakhstan, the Consul General noted, remains open to foreign investors and interested in developing practical, mutually beneficial partnerships.
Belt and Road: Hong Kong sees Kazakhstan as a key partner
Nicholas Ho подчеркнул Kazakhstan’s strong position within the Belt and Road Initiative, describing the country as an attractive destination for investment and regional cooperation.
He confirmed Hong Kong’s interest in expanding engagement with Kazakhstan, stressing that the partnership could play an important role in connecting East Asia with Central Asia and beyond.
Business delegation from Greater Bay Area may visit Kazakhstan
One of the most concrete initiatives discussed was the possible organization of a large business delegation visit to Kazakhstan in 2026. The delegation could include entrepreneurs from Hong Kong as well as cities of the Greater Bay Area, such as Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Macau, Zhuhai, Foshan, Dongguan, Zhongshan, Jiangmen, Huizhou, and Zhaoqing.
Such a visit could open new channels for direct business contacts and investment cooperation between Kazakh companies and one of Asia’s most dynamic economic regions.
Education remains a strategic pillar
Education was another key topic on the agenda. It was noted that Kazakhstan actively participates in educational programs under the Belt and Road Initiative and is among the main recipients of Hong Kong Government scholarships.
In this context, the Consul General proposed increasing the number of grants available for Kazakhstani students and suggested discussing this initiative jointly with leading Hong Kong universities.
More than 400 Kazakh students study in top Hong Kong universities
Currently, more than 400 students from Kazakhstan are studying on full scholarships at Hong Kong’s leading universities. These institutions rank among the top 50 universities in the world, making Hong Kong one of the most attractive destinations for Kazakhstani students seeking high-quality international education.
Cooperation set to deepen
At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides confirmed their readiness to further strengthen cooperation in investment, trade, education, and tourism. The parties agreed to continue joint efforts to turn the discussed initiatives into concrete projects.
As Kazakhstan and Hong Kong look ahead to 2026, the emphasis is clearly shifting from dialogue to practical results - with business, students, and investors expected to be among the main beneficiaries.
