Vice-Speaker of the Senate participated in an International Meeting on European Security


Deputy Chairman of the Senate Askar Shakirov attended an International Meeting in Helsinki on "The Role of the OSCE and its Parliamentary Assembly in the Changing Architecture of European Security", Delovoy Kazakhstan reports.

The participants discussed topical issues related to the OSCE's role in the context of today's international agenda and obstacles to the organization's realization of its potential. Particular attention was paid to the internal reform of the OSCE.

The event was a follow-up to the "Call for Action – Helsinki+50" process, which is a preparatory stage for the Organization's Anniversary Session in 2025. The Session is expected to adopt an outcome document reflecting the vision of the future European security architecture and the role of the Parliamentary Assembly in it.

The Vice President of the Senate, who is a member of the working group of the Assembly in the framework of the mentioned process, drew the attention of his colleagues to the role of the Astana Declaration adopted in 2010, which remains actual in the conditions of turbulent geopolitical situation and makes an important contribution to the efforts of the international community in achieving comprehensive peace and security in the OSCE region.

The event was attended by members of the extended Bureau of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, members of the Finnish Parliament, as well as representatives of the expert community.
