NPCK Board of Directors Updated: What Changes Are Coming to Kazakhstan’s Payment Market

National Payment Corporation of Kazakhstan has announced changes to the composition of its Board of Directors, reinforcing its strategic focus on digital transformation and innovation in the country’s payment ecosystem. Erlan Ashykbekov and Askar Zhambakin have joined the Board, bringing with them deep expertise in payment systems, digital technologies, and corporate governance, DKNews.kz reports.

As the economy rapidly digitalizes, speed, convenience, and security of payments are becoming critical factors for both citizens and businesses. Against this backdrop, the updated Board of Directors will prioritize the introduction of advanced payment technologies, expansion of digital services, stronger fraud protection, and wider access to cashless payment solutions.

According to Binur Zhalenov, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Payment Corporation, the key objective is to build a future-ready payment ecosystem.

“Our goal is to create a reliable, technology-driven, and accessible payment ecosystem capable of responding to future challenges and supporting the country’s economic development. We are strengthening our focus on innovation, including artificial intelligence–based solutions, as well as intelligent payment management and security systems. That is why the Board has been joined by experts with a deep understanding of the market and hands-on experience in implementing complex infrastructure projects,” he said.

Zhanar Samayeva, Chairwoman of the Management Board of the National Payment Corporation, emphasized the importance of dialogue with the market.

“For the National Payment Corporation, it is crucial to maintain an open and professional dialogue with financial market participants, external experts, and counterparties. The updated Board composition enhances this engagement and enables a more comprehensive and balanced approach to developing the payment infrastructure,” she noted.

New members of the Board

Erlan Ashykbekov is widely recognized as one of Kazakhstan’s leading experts in payment systems and financial technologies. His professional background includes the development of payment infrastructure, deployment of advanced digital services, and strengthening the security of cashless transactions. His experience in improving payment mechanisms and interbank cooperation is expected to contribute to the establishment of new market standards.

Askar Zhambakin is an experienced executive with a strong track record in both the corporate sector and the strategic development of large organizations. He specializes in business process efficiency, sustainable growth, and digital innovation. His participation on the Board is aimed at further strengthening corporate governance and advancing long-term digitalization initiatives.

At the same time, Askar Smagulov will continue his work as a member of the Board of Directors. He brings extensive experience in financial market institutions, with a particular focus on corporate governance, long-term growth strategies, investment activities, and the management of large-scale assets, including in retail and real estate development.

The renewed Board of Directors will continue to develop Kazakhstan’s national payment infrastructure and reinforce the role of the National Payment Corporation as a key player in the country’s financial market - reliable, technology-driven, and customer-oriented.
